HOSTEL DETAIL

About Us

The In Pension is located in the heart of the Cappadocia countryside in the rustic village of Çavuşin. For already twenty years the In Pension has been providing a hospitable and relaxed place to stay during a visit to this beautiful and fascinating part of Turkey.
The pension is run by Ali K?l?nç with the aid of his father who is the owner of the trekking organization Mephisto Voyage. Together with the other members of staff they aim to provide every guest with an unforgettable holiday.

The In Pension is a middle sized pension with a total of sixteen rooms. Ten of the rooms have their own private bathrooms, while the remaining ones share bathrooms outside of the room.
The flowered and vine-covered courtyard provides a shady place to relax after you have spent the day exploring Cappadocia. In the evening you can sit down here, or in the restaurant inside, to enjoy a typical home made Turkish meal. There is also an authentic sitting room where we light the hearth on chilly nights.

The village of Çavuşin is a peaceful place that has not been completely taken over by tourism - as is the case with other nearby towns and villages. Here you are still able to have a taste of authentic Turkish village life.
Çavuşin is an ideal base of departure for walking through the surrounding Cappadocia landscapes. Numerous short as well as long hikes can be undertaken departing from the pension. At the In Pension we will be able to provide you with all the adequate information on where and how to walk (including maps) and will be happy to arrange a guide to accompany you if desired.

Families are more than welcome at the In Pension. The quiet village and small size of the pension will ensure your children a safe and pleasant stay.

How to Find Us

All major cities (Ankara, Istanbul, Antalya, Alanya, Izmir, etc.) have direct bus lines to Cappadocia. The main bus company serving these routes is: Nevşehir Turizm. Telephone: 444 50 50 (central number for the whole of Turkey).

Çavuşin is situated between the towns of Göreme and Avanos. When buying your bus ticket ask for a ticket to Çavuşin (pronounced: tcha-ou-chine). Upon arriving in Cappadocia the bus will stop at Nevşehir bus station. From here you must catch a different bus to Çavuşin, which is approximately a 20 minute ride from Nevşehir. This bus stops at the edge of Çavuşin village. It is only a couple of minutes from the spot where you get of the bus to the pension: straight up the road and impossible to miss.

We will be happy to make bus ticket reservations for you and meet you at the bus stop in the village.

By air
There are daily flights from Istanbul to Kayseri (80 km from Çavuşin). We can make ticket reservations for you as well as arrange transportation from the airport to the pension.

Mini-Bus
We offer a private mini-bus service between Ankara (airport) and Cappadocia.

Things to Do around Us

Things to do in Cappadocia

The beautiful valleys of Cappadocia are only partially accessible by road. The natural beauty of the bizarre rock formations are thus best appreciated on foot. Cappadocia is an ideal region for trekking. Small paths and dirt tracks weave trough all the valleys. The routes are relatively easy to walk and can be enjoyed by young and old.

A visit to a (historical) hamam (Turkish bath) can be a revitalizing experience after a days trek. Most hamams also offer massages.
Cappadocia already has a long history of wine production. You are able to discover the local wines at one of the wine cellars of the region. Most wines are made of local grape varieties and range from simple table wines to vintage wines with their own unique character.
In the evenings there are different forms of entertainment to choose from. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and disco’s in the area. In lots of the bars there are live performances by musicians playing traditional Turkish music. A more serene evening can be enjoyed at a whirling Dervish ceremony preformed at a caravansary. A whole evening of entertainment is offered at a Turkish folklore night. Here traditional Turkish dances are preformed as well as belly dancing and divers other acts. This can all be watched while being served food and drinks.

For children
Besides walking in the region, there are numerous other things especially for children to do. They can participate in a pottery making course, go horseback riding or on a donkey ride. There are swimming possibilities in swimming pools as well as in the naturally hot water baths.

Places to visit
ZELVE OPEN AIR MUSEUM: The museum near the small village of Zelve was originally a monastery complex. It was later inhabited by villagers who finally had to stop living here in 1955 when falling rocks it too dangerous. The complex is stretched out over three valleys, two of which are connected by a still accessible, though very dark, tunnel. The complex contains numerous chapels and medieval oratories, many of which are decorated with carved crosses.
GÖREME OPEN AIR MUSEUM: The Open Air Museum of Göreme was originally a monastic settlement. Today it contains over thirty churches and chapels from mainly the 9th – 11th century. The abundance of religious buildings is an indicator of Göreme’s importance as a monastic centre. The churches within the museum contain some of the best preserved Byzantine frescoes of the whole Cappadocia region. These paintings depict numerous biblical scenes and saints as well as more primitive elements of decoration.
IHLARA VALLEY: The Ihlara Valley is one of the most picturesque valleys in Cappadocia. The Melendiz River flows through the middle of the valley. The river is bordered by green meadows and overhung by imposing red cliffs that reach a height of up to 90 meters. The faces of the cliffs contain numerous rock-cut churches, some of which still have the remains of Byzantine frescoes.
AVANOS: Through the centre of Avanos flows the K?z?l?rmak, the longest river of Anatolia. This river provides the clay needed for the pottery production of the region. The art of pottery making has a long history here, stretching back to Hittite times (1700 – 1200 B.C.). Earth is taken from the banks of the river and mixed with sand and clay. This substance is then used to make pottery. Numerous pottery workshops give pottery making demonstrations and courses.
ORTAHISAR AND UCHISAR: The villages of Ortahisar and Uçhisar are visually dominated by high-rising rock-structures that are riddled with cave dwellings. These rock fortresses used to house complete villages. A climb to the top will reward you with magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including (on clear days) the snow topped Erciyes Mountain.
UNDERGROUND CITIES: The ancient civilizations of Cappadocia sometimes lived in underground cities, like the most famous ones at Derinkuyu and Kaymakl?. These cities have up to nine levels under the ground containing rooms for different purposes connected by a labyrinth of tunnels. These complete cities contain rooms that where used as stables, dining rooms, schools, armories, churches, dungeons and of course living quarters.
People occupied these cities before Christianity reached the region, but they were mainly used during Arab invasions in the Byzantine era. During these raids the Christian population sought refuge in these underground places of dwelling that were much easier to defend than the villages above ground. Entrances were blocked by heavy millstones and thanks to the ventilation systems even the lowest levels were provided with sufficient fresh air.
