About Us
Alaska Backpacker’s Inn is Anchorage's newest backpacker’s hostel. We are located in downtown Anchorage only a few minutes walk from all that downtown Anchorage has to offer. We are right around the corner from the train station and Alaska direct bus.
The hostel contains 80 beds broken in small dorms (No more than 6 beds per dorm) and private rooms in our main building. This summer we are very exited to announce that have taken on the challenge of providing more private rooms due to the high demand. We will be offering updated rooms with an urban feel in the annex building (less than one block away on the same street)! We are now providing full one bedroom private suites with full kitchens and bathrooms. Our annex building is in the midst of transforming this summer into a sister hostel for ABI.
Private rooms include cable TV (80 channels plus Showtime) and Micro-fridges on each room. Deluxe private rooms offer the same as the other. They are just more private and newly remodeled. Each of these Deluxe rooms will only be sharing the bathroom and a kitchenette with one more other room. There is also a different area with a bigger fully equipped kitchen like our main building in case guest would like to socialize. 2 shares have micro fridges, individual lockers (locks not provided), and each bed has its own low voltage light besides the main light.
Other facilities include cable TV in a large common area which also has a Foosball table and vending machines, reading room, kitchen, lots of clean spacious shared bathrooms and much more.
In addition to adding more rooms, we will also be offering dining room service. Our guests will be able to enjoy a wide variety of menu items from the comfort of their rooms. In the process, we have given all the rooms their own temperature control gauge for individual comfort.
With growth comes excitement and sometimes a bit of confusion. We look forward to and thank you for your business and patronage this summer. We are striving to meet as many of your needs as an economical and traveler friendly hostel can.

Downtown Anchorage
Taxi cab:
The fastest and easiest way, is to get a cab. They are waiting 24/7 on the airport. We are 7 miles away from it. The fare will be $20 give or take. If they ask, tell them we are located between 4th and 3rd avenue two blocks north of the Sheraton in Downtown
Bus:
If you opt for a least expensive way, you can always grab the bus 7A and get off at the Anchorage downtown transfer station. We are 15-20 minutes walking distance away from it. For more information on buses routes and schedules please visit People’s mover website. If you do take the bus, head north (towards the mountains) on 6th avenue and make a left on eagle street. We should be located two blocks after you turn on your left.
Train:
The train does not go by the airport. But it is conveniently located in case our guests decide to take off on an Alaskan adventure. The trains is 17 minutes away walking distance if not less.

Things to Do around Us
Alaska has a vast number of activities to do during the summer. There is an activity for anyone and any age. You can either go wildlife viewing, clubbing, hiking, camping, sight seeing, fishing, mountaineering, eating, biking or atving and we have what you need to get started or we will point you in the right direction. It will definitely be an experience you will never forget
